Run: to go quickly by moving the legs more rapidly than at a walk and in such a manner that for an instant in each step all or both feet are off the ground.
I have started running….who knew it would be such a challenge for me. Well, Keith did, but I wasn’t listening! Ha (what’s new) Anyway, at the first of the year I determined I would start running this year. I had hoped to start earlier….but I didn’t. 🙂 Like a lot of things in my life I didn’t think it really needed any preplanning so I just put on my shoes and started running. (a little Forrest Gumpish) Keith had warned me that I would need proper running shoes and need to stretch and take my time and, well, you know all the other things one should check into before heading full steam into running. Buuuuutttt, no, I didn’t listen. I felt like I was running with weights on my feet and even commented that I was running like a stampede of bulls. I wanted to run like a gazelle…light and easy. Well, after running in my ‘generic’ shoes for about a week, I came home one night, swallowed my pride and said “honey, I need some good running shoes”. And he said, ‘OK, let’s make you an appointment to have your run analyzed.’ He could have said ‘I told you so’, but he didn’t. The next day he was the one who called and got all the info and off we went to the shoe store. (Red Coyote) Long story short I have a great pair of running shoes that fit my feet and my run. I now run like a gazelle! However, just cuz you have great running shoes and run like a gazelle you can’t just start running miles and miles. Which I did and hurt my right knee….crazy hurt my right knee. Well, I thought it was the shoes and headed back to the store, I mean surely if you want to run you can just take off, right? Wrong! After some discussion with the great staff at the store, I found out that now my legs/feet have to get use to running in the new shoes. So, I have to slow down…geesh, not what I wanted to hear. However, with the pain in my knee nagging at me, I have decided to slow down and run only a mile each time….distance will come in time, but first I need to learn to run!
I have thought about how I handled this new hobby of running. I ‘ran’ into it without any direction or instruction. Just thought I would do it! We can see that that didn’t work for me! This like many things in our lives needs to be done at a pace…with proper preparation, direction and instruction. I have a dream in my heart that I know God has placed there. I have tried many times to ‘make it happen’, but have learned over the last few years that God is preparing me and teaching me for this purpose and plan He has for me. I have gotten frustrated, angry and even depressed when things I ‘knew’ were for me didn’t happen. I am learning to wait for Him to move and love all the growth and teaching I am getting in the process. One of my favorite women in the Bible is Esther…her life shows me that there is a time of preparation for the plan God has for us, that we need to live a life that is pleasing to Him and trust in His timing. Be found faithful in all things and He will give you ….such a time as this!
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
