During the holidays last year (really that was only a few weeks ago, but that was last year) I was introduced to Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op by my DIL’s Mom. It’s an organization that was started by a group of people who wanted to be able to supply families with fruits, veggies, nuts and breads at a nominal fee. You place your order each week, they pull the money from each week’s orders together, purchase from the same places the grocery stores do and then deliver it to your location where volunteers separate it into baskets for each family. You show up and transfer the produce to your bags or boxes and off you go to enjoy it. Simple, low cost and totally yummy! You can visit their website for more info and instructions for participating. Follow them on Facebook, Pinterest or their blog to get great recipes for the produce we get each week.
I have participated twice now and am very happy with the quantity and quality of the fruits and veggies they bring to us. In my first experience we received 8 Persimmons. I am a little embarrassed to tell you this, but I had to goggle them. I thought they were tomatoes….nope they are a yummy fruit! They were very good and we have looked for them around town but haven’t found them yet. Not that I have looked everywhere, but the places I frequent don’t carry them. In my most recent basket I ordered an ‘extra’ (info on their website) of granola and it is awesome. It is perfect for our Daniel Fast. Also in this last basket were fresh brussel sprouts (gag)! I won’t eat them, but Keith will. I mention these two things so that you don’t think it is your basic fruits and veggies, it’s not, they do some great shopping and bring fresh produce to each location. It only takes a few minutes to order online and about 20 minutes to pick it up.
I hope you will check it out. I know I am looking forward to my next basket!
Let me know if you try it and what your thoughts are.
