Lessons from a Tree…..

Keith and I had to replace our tree shortly after buying our new home. The one the builder planted had died….and well, neighborhood laws require a tree in every yard. *rolling my eyes*  The day it was planted it was staked with the typical metal poles and wires to keep it safe  from being blown down in a storm….or just the normal everyday Oklahoma wind! We kept it staked until last Spring and then decided it was probably rooted enough to hold it’s own.  Well, last year was a pretty bad year for storms…a lot of hail, wind and tornadoes. After one of those bad storms we came out to find the poor tree barely standing! 😦  We managed to get it upright,  found the stakes and staked it up again.  Thankfully it survived!  We will keep it staked up for a little while longer.

I was looking at that tree the other day, with it’s support system holding it in place, keeping it upright in the wind and storms. I thought about the people in my life that hold me up, supporting me through storms, keeping me grounded in my faith in God. You know, those friends that stick closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)   People who stick by you through the good, the bad, the ugly, love you unconditionally and hold you up in the midst of the storm. I’ve got those people in my life and I am so thankful for each and every one of them.  They have seen me/us at our worst and our best, they have helped us weather our storms with love and compassion.  They have been our support system, keeping us standing even when the storm threatens to knock us down.

I don’t know if you have people like that in your life, but you need them. It is important that we have those around us who will hold us up, helping us stand tall during the storms. I encourage you to find the ‘stakes’ in your life so when storms come and they will, you are surrounded by friends (stakes)  who help you stand tall, keeping your roots grounded in the foundation they are planted in.

Forever thankful for my ‘stakes’!

Winnie

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
