Journal find….

I’ve recently started reading a new book and decided I needed a journal to take notes in.  I rummaged through the bookshelf this morning and found one that only had a few used pages in it. (score) Written on those few pages were notes from a message dated back to May 2012.  After reading through the notes I realized it was a message our Pastor shared during a series on the 10th anniversary of Peoples Church.  There was a lot of great stuff noted on the pages, but one line in particular stuck out to me.

I love the heart of our church…..love even more that I have come to realize the truth in that statement. Grateful that God has changed my heart.

We are in a new series right now called ‘It’s OK Not to be OK’. The heart of our church has never changed over the years. It’s still ALL about seeing lives changed for Him.

‘God loves you just the way you are, but He doesn’t want to leave you like you are.’ Herbert Cooper #ItsOkNotToBeOk

Now is your time…I encourage you to find a place of worship that will help you realize your life in Christ.  Of course you are welcome to visit us…we have 3 locations..or you can watch online.

You matter to God!

God is pursuing you…it’s your such a time as this….the doors are open to you, just like they were open to me. God wants to walk beside you and help you realize all He created you to be.

It’s time to walk through the door……

When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples,
“Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor,
but the sick. But go and learn what this means:
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’
For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Matthew 9:11-13 NIV

Throwback Thursday

Back in 2004 (I think) we had our first PC Ladies Retreat at a local hotel here in OKC.  Our Pastor’s wife, Tiffany, spoke…shared her heart about woman who have mentored her. It was a great evening!

At the end of the first night we gathered in a circle and spent some time getting to know each other, sharing our lives,  shedding some tears…okay, maybe that was just me. But, it was a great time of fellowship and was the foundation that helped to grow some amazing friendships.

At the end of that time we all took several  pieces of paper and wrote sweet things anonymously about anyone we felt led to share with. I received several of these uplifting and sweet notes that evening and still have them tucked in my bible.

I came across them this week and had to smile at the memories of that retreat. There are great friendships that grew out of that time and many of these friends are mentors in my life. Ladies who have helped me grow into a better wife, mother and friend.

In return I hope that I am able to do the same for women that God puts in my life.

Thank you to all the women in my life for being a part of molding me into who I am today~

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Mission-Beautician

When I was in junior high a Nun spoke to our Catechism class about her time in the mission field.  I don’t remember where she served, but I remember that most of her time was spent in an area where the villagers lived in grass huts. I was very intrigued with her stories, her desire to help others, teach them about God and a little excited to live in a grass hut.  I proudly announced to my Mom on our way home that day that I was going to be a missionary.

Several years later in high school, I enrolled in Cosmetology and decided that I wanted to be a ‘beautician’. When I mentioned this to my Mom she reminded me that I was going to be a missionary.  Oh, yea, I was going to be a missionary..but, now I wanted to fix hair…so she said I could be the mission beautician!  We laughed about it…actually still makes me chuckle a little bit.

Sadly I ended up not doing either.

Or did I?

Last night during a meeting about our upcoming 3rd campus launch our Pastor read this scripture:

“The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields”.

Luke 10:2

The evening brought back my memory of being a missionary….all these years I thought it was just a child’s dream, and maybe it was all those years ago. However, this adult woman has that same desire and passion, to see lives changed for Christ. I may not be living in a foreign country,or in a grass hut, but we are being sent out into the fields to serve others and tell them about God, right here in Oklahoma City. The harvest is plentiful…..

Keith and I made the decision to be a part of Peoples Church over 11 years ago because the heart of this church is to see people come to Christ, to reach outside of our 4 walls and draw them into a relationship with God.

I don’t fix hair…but if you want to be a guinea pig, I’d be happy to give it a try!

However, I am a missionary…working the fields of Oklahoma City along side my Handsome Man and thousands from our church. Our hearts are to serve our church and our community. The harvest is plentiful…..

I am praying God will give you the same desire to serve the fields in your city, your church, to see lives changed for Him.

The harvest is plentiful…

It’s not about me?

I know, shocker, right?  I mean, when did it stop being all about me, me, me?

For some of us, it was realized years ago, others more recently and for others, well, you are in total shock right now! No worries, you’ll come around.

For me, it’s been a transformation that has taken place over the last several years.

I can now say it’s not about me and mean it.  It’s about what God can do in and through me.  It’s about what I can do for others. It’s about serving Him.  It’s about God!

When I realized that and took the focus off of myself, God revealed talents and passions that had been hidden beneath my ‘what about me’ attitude.

It’s not about me. God opened my eyes to the needs of others. He took me from the quiet, shy (yes, I know it’s hard to believe) person that I was  to a confident, serving Him daily, woman! I stepped off the shore and into the world of serving at church. Serving for His glory and not mine.

I have served in church for years, but now it’s different. I serve with a purpose, God’s purpose, not my own.  To be used by Him to see lives changed and grounded in Him. I want to help others realize their value in God and to help them see the life that He has planned for them.

When I serve, I am serving God and others…not me.

It’s been life changing, stepping into His plan and using the gifts He gave me.

I didn’t do it alone; I have been mentored by awesome people over these last few years. They have taught me the importance of seeing the needs of others over my own.
“The only really happy people are those who have learned how to serve.”

Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life

Humbly His!

Winnie
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.  Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
