One More Step

I found this song and immediately fell in love with it. One More Step-Lindsay McCaul

Truth be told ~ I cried like a baby!  It reminded me so much of my sister, Melanie.

We did life together…I mean, everything.  We would talk or text every day…we prayed together in the morning, we argued and fought, she was my sandpaper and I was hers. We were always there for each other, walked through this life together.  She was the most beautiful person I know and I was blessed to spend my life as her sister and best friend.

In the last few months of her life she would often talk about what it would be like in heaven, who she would see, how she couldn’t wait to see God and she wanted to dance.

One day when we were sitting in her living room she asked me if I thought she would know all the steps. I asked her what steps and she said to her dance in heaven.  I told she would, it would be natural and she would be very good at it. A few days before she passed away she took the hands of one of her nurses and danced the best she could from her hospital bed. She swayed their hands, moved her feet and shook her shoulders.  She was really enjoying her little dance and then she looked at me and said ‘this is how I will dance in heaven.’

It wasn’t too many days later and she left earth and took One More Step onto heavens streets……

And then she danced!

I’ve spent quite a bit of time going back over memories, fun family times and sentimental moments these last few weeks. I guess you can say I’ve been feeling nostalgic.

Today I found myself reading some of my older blog posts. I came across one I posted about my sweet lil man, Emery, and his dislike for haircuts!  I laughed a little, then when I looked at the picture of him winking at me…yep, tears came. I love this lil guy so much!

It probably won’t mean anything to the average reader, but if you are interested in reading it, click here.

Have a blessed Friday!

P.S. He doesn’t mind a haircut these days!

Christmas Family Fun

One of my favorite family Christmas activities over the years has been driving around to see light displays.  When the kids were little we set Christmas Eve aside for that. Sometimes we would stop for hot chocolate or ice cream, then we would head home to open one gift. Of course every year it was the ‘gift’, you know the one…the new pajamas!

The last few years Keith and I have looked at lights alone…the kids are grown and celebrating with their families now.  We always enjoy it, but I decided this year we need to make some new traditions for the 2 of us.

I googled OKC 2014 Christmas family fun to see if I could find something new for this year. I was surprised at how much I found.  Looks like we have a lot to choose from.

Here is a list of places to go and things to do…we are going to do as much as we can…make some great 2014 memories.

Check these out and let me know if you have something I missed.

Downtown OKC has a lot to offer…lights, tubing, ice skating, etc.  I am looking forward to going downtown.

Chickasha’s lights are always a hit with us…has a bit of romance about it.

Of course, we typically drive by Chesapeake’s lights as well…

I also found a list of families who have great light displays.  I don’t think we have ever visited any of these neighborhoods.  I wonder if I could ever get Keith to do something this big…to draw a crowd…yeah, probably not!

Here is a list of family activities for the kids…some are free….I like free!

After checking out the previous link I decided to type in FREE family activities and this is what I found…some are repeats from above, but there are some that haven’t been mentioned.

I hope you find something to do this season that is new and different.

Make some new traditions and create lasting memories this year.

Merry Christmas!
Blessings!

Thank you!

With our anniversary right around the corner I am feeling a little nostalgic, which is making me a little emotional…I know you’re not surprised! (hang on while I grab a tissue)

I’ve been thinking back over these last 30 years and all the people God has put in our lives.  People who have sewn into who we are today, in our relationship with God, our children, our grandchildren, and each other.  Friends & family as far away as Alaska, Florida and New England and as close as Oklahoma.

Keith’s Coast Guard career allowed us to live in a lot of different places. We have so many memories from each of our duty stations, life long friends, moments of growth and lots of laughs.

So, today I want to say Thank You!

Thank you to all of you, friends and family, who have believed in us,
loved us, counseled us, been examples for us, taught us,
laughed with us, cried with us, walked through our storms
and our triumphs, celebrated with us, but most of all, you loved us.
So much of who we are today as individuals and
spouses is because you lived life with us.

Thank you all for the encouragement and
love you have poured over us these last 30 years.

We love you all!

Stick around, there’s another 30 or more ahead of us and we still need you!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Keeping up with the Joneses

It happened…the day finally arrived… the Chandlers and the Joneses came together this weekend to celebrate the marriage of Michele and Jared and the union of two families into one.

A years worth of planning came together and we watched as they celebrated their love for each other and their children.  The chosen vows were from Ruth 1:16 “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.” They exchanged rings and a kiss and with their children, they poured 6 colors of sand into a jar to represent the blending of their two families into one unit.

The bride was beautiful in her vintage dress and hair and her Captain America shoes were a fun addition!

The groom proudly wore his Army uniform.  He stood tall and proud as he watched his beautiful bride walk the aisle towards him.

Nothing makes this woman’s  heart more happy than to watch her decked out Coast Guard husband salute the man who has vowed to love their daughter forever.

It was a beautiful day………only God could keep the winds calm in OK and have the sunshine in mid July and it only be 84 degrees. Big shout out to God!

We want to thank everyone who came to stand with them as they walk into this new journey of their lives.

They look forward to all God has planned for them.

Pictures will follow soon….but, while you wait, enjoy this one from our Instabus fun photos.  By the way, check them out, they make any occasion tons of fun!

Thanks for stopping by!

Blessings!
Winnie

P.S.I am so happy to be back to blogging…watch for updates and improvements…it’s gonna be awesome!

Happy Birthday Dee!

Today we celebrate my sister Dolores. It’s her birthday! Dee is the 3rd born in our family of 5 kids, the 2nd sister..almost the oldest..but not quite!!  I won’t tell you how old she is, but she was born in ’63…you do the math!
It’s funny how when I was a kid being the oldest sister spoke power and authority, but now that we are older, it’s just a number! And a big one at that!
My sister is Mom to Kent, a Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Grandma and Friend.  She has a sweet heart and loves all those that she calls family and friends.  She is loving, kind and very independent!

She has a dog named Willie..he’s part Golden Retriever and something else…not sure what, but it all makes for a great dog.  She says he thinks he’s human, but I think he knows he’s a dog and is worried about her lack of reality! She talks to him like he’s one of her children…says he understands her every word. But in reality, we all know he hears ‘wah, wah, wah’.  He has the wags of his tail and the tilt of his head down to perfect timing….makes her think he knows exactly what she is saying… Good dog, Willie!
Dee recently completed Medical Assistant school.  Woot Woot!  It’s been a lot of work and not always easy, but she never gave up.  Most mornings Keith and I received a text reminding us to pray for her. It was always followed up with news of good  test scores & higher class average. This season of her life helped her realize God does take care of her in all circumstances and she is smarter than she believes.  We are so proud of her!

We don’t live close, so we appreciate social media, phones calls and texts that allow us to stay in touch. We are excited to see where God takes her from here.  His plans are always great!

Happy Birthday Dee!
We love you so much!

Babe & Keith

P.S. Molly says to tell Willie Hi—wah wah wah!

P. P. S. I would post a picture of Dee…but who has one….crazy, but I searched and couldn’t find one. Even crazier, her Facebook photos are all of Willie!

Throwback Thursday

Back in 2004 (I think) we had our first PC Ladies Retreat at a local hotel here in OKC.  Our Pastor’s wife, Tiffany, spoke…shared her heart about woman who have mentored her. It was a great evening!

At the end of the first night we gathered in a circle and spent some time getting to know each other, sharing our lives,  shedding some tears…okay, maybe that was just me. But, it was a great time of fellowship and was the foundation that helped to grow some amazing friendships.

At the end of that time we all took several  pieces of paper and wrote sweet things anonymously about anyone we felt led to share with. I received several of these uplifting and sweet notes that evening and still have them tucked in my bible.

I came across them this week and had to smile at the memories of that retreat. There are great friendships that grew out of that time and many of these friends are mentors in my life. Ladies who have helped me grow into a better wife, mother and friend.

In return I hope that I am able to do the same for women that God puts in my life.

Thank you to all the women in my life for being a part of molding me into who I am today~

Happy Throwback Thursday!
